[Dt.:] Der National Family Health Survey (NFHS) in Indien ist 2005/2006 zum dritten Mal (zuerst 1992/92; dann 1998/99) erhoben und veröffentlicht worden. Die Projektleitung liegt beim International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai. Die Datensammlung, die auf einer repräsentativen Datenerhebung basiert, enthält Informationen zum Gesundheitszustand und -verhalten der indischen Bevölkerung. Diese Informationen sind sowohl für Indien ingesamt als auch für die einzelnen Bundesstaaten erhältlich und stehen teilweise auch auf der NFHS-Homepage in Form von Factsheets und Datenreihen zur Verfügung. - [Engl.:] The National Family Health Survey (NFHS) is a large-scale, multi-round survey conducted in a representative sample of households throughout India. The NFHS is a collaborative project, headed by the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) in Mumbai. The first National Family Health Survey (NFHS-1) was conducted in 1992/93 and the third National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3) was carried out in 2005-2006. The NFHS is a household survey which will provide estimates of indicators of population, health, and nutrition by background characteristics at the national and state levels. In NFHS-3, information is collected about households, and individual interviews are conducted with women age 15-49 and men age 15-54. The newest NFHS also includes height and weight measurement and blood tests for HIV and anaemia. Works range from appr. 2500 B.C.E. to the present. This broad collection contains predominantly Buddhist material, but also includes Hindu, Jain, Islamic and other works. In addition, the Huntington Archive includes the largest photographic archive of Nepali art and architecture in the world and represents the only formal collection that photographically records this country's artistic heritage

In order to make all details accessible the map has been cut into 72 slightly overlapping detailed views (K1 to K72, indicated at the upper left). In each of these 72 windows you can click on the objects and a popup will open with the respective symbol, the Sanskrit and Hindi inscriptions in Devanagari script, the transcription as well as a translation and further remarks about textual references etc. A navigation cross in the upper right allows direct access to the surrounding maps. The 751 text blocks on the map have been numbered (S1 to S751). Every entry is indexed in the "General Index" and linked to the maps. To the left of the entries the number of the map is given, to the right the object-number, linked directly to the popup. The entry "34 - AbhayadavinÁyaka - S605f" thus stands for the sixth (indicated by the letter f) entry in popup S605 on map K34. The search for a specific entry on the map is - especially in the case of larger text blocks - sometimes difficult. [Dt.:] Die Indigo-Gallery in Kathmandu zeigte 1999 46 Werke des Künstlers P. N. Dhumkhang, der sich auf tibetische Kalligraphie spezialisiert hat. In der Online-Ausstellung sind 21 dieser Werke zu sehen. Eingeleitet wird die Ausstellung mit einem Essay von Roberto Vitali, der auch erklärende Angaben zu den einzelnen Bildern zusammengestellt hat. Die tibetische Schreibschrift, wie sie auch Dhumkhang verwendet, entstand im 7. Jahrhundert und differenzierte sich dann in verschiedene Schreibstile aus. - [Engl.:] This online exhibitions shows the works of P. N. Dhumkhang, who is specialized in Tibetan calligraphy. Dhumkhang's works can be appreciated purely for their aesthetic beauty and, at the same time, for the profoundity of Tibetan philosophy expressed by simple strokes of a bamboo pen. Tibetans normally credit the birth of their script to Thönmi Sambhota, a Minister of Songtsan gampo (617-650), sent to India to draw inspiration for a Tibetan alphabet. In little over a century, Tibetan calligraphers had proliferated seven different scripts, some with innumerable further variations. Roberto Vitali wrote an introduction to this exhibition.

Der französische Geistliche war von 1792 bis 1832 32 Jahre lang in Südindien. 1817 erschien sein Werk "Leben und Riten der Inder" zuerst auf Englisch und dann 1825 auf Französisch. Seit 2002 existiert eine neue deutsche Fassung dieses Werkes. Der Übersetzer Thomas Kohl hat zu Dubois eine Webseite gestaltet. Darauf finden sich Informationen über Leben und Werk. Schwerpunkt bildet seine Zeit in Südindien. - [Engl.:] Jean Antoine Dubois, a French clericalist, lived from 1766 until 1848. Between 1792 and 1832 he had been in South India. In 1817 his book "Leben und Riten der Inder" was published. In 1825 a French version and in 2002 a new German version of this book was also published. The translator Thomas Kohl created a web site about the life of Jean Antoine Dubois.

This website focusses on this 'tribal' community mainly living in the hilly regions of the Nilgiris in South India and in parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

[Dt.:] Die von Professor Frank de Caro and Rosan Augusta Jordan (English Department, Lousiana State University) geleitete Ausstellung über aufgenommene Interviews mit britischen Staatsbürgern, welche in Indien vor der Unabhängigkeit 1947 lebten und arbeiteten, zeigt ein kollektives Portrait einer kolonialen Subkultur und Berichte darüber, wie Europäer die asiatische Gesellschaft, unter ihren speziellen zeitlichen Bedingungen, erfahren haben. Die Interviews stehen in digitaler Form zur Verfügung. - [Engl.:] The exhibition marks the acquisition by the T. Harry Williams Center for Oral History at LSU of a series of taped interviews -- conducted by Professors Frank de Caro and Rosan Augusta Jordan of the LSU English Department -- with British people who lived and worked in India before Independence in 1947. Collectively they provide a sort of "self-portrait" of a colonial subculture and accounts of how Europeans experienced a great Asian society under the peculiar conditions of their time. The interviews are presented in a digital format.
