Unter der Rubrik "Diaspora" diskutiert der Autor den Begriff "Indische Diaspora" hinsichtlich der Angemessenheit seitens beider Begriffskomponenten. Dabei thematisiert er zum Einen, ob im indischen Kontext überhaupt von einer Diaspora gesprochen werden kann und zum Anderen, was denn nun das spezifisch "indische" an der indischen Diaspora sei und argumentiert für die Verwendung des Begriffs. In mehreren Aufsätzen erläutert er die spezifischen Charakteristika indischer Minderheiten, die sich über den Zeitraum mehrerer Jahrhunderte an verschiedenen Orten der Welt ausgebildet haben: USA, Malaysia, Chicago, Mauritanien, Karibik, Trinidad usw. - [Engl.:] The Associate Professor at the UCLA History Faculty and author of many books on Indian culture and history, Vinay Lal, provides on his web site "Manas" introducing texts and continuative links that pick out a wide range of aspects on the Indian subcontinent. On the issue "Indian Diaspora" he discusses the adequateness of this notion by examining both components of the notion: on the one hand he argues whether we can talk of a diaspora in the Indian context at all, on the other hand he verifies the specifics of an "Indianness" in migration situations of Indian people throughout the centuries. Several papers highlight the different steps and worldwide places, where Indian communities could develop: like in the US, Malaysia, Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago
