The International Gustav Mahler Society, founded in Vienna in 1955, initially focused entirely on publishing Mahler’s complete works and promoting his music to a broader public. In 1976, it was decided to set up a publication that would regularly report on new publications and activities related to Mahler’s work, his philosophy, and his professional and personal environment. Members were invited to send in information and contributions. Over the years, the News about Mahler Research (NMR), which was first published semi-annually, later annually and always in both German and English editions, developed into an extensive forum for Mahler researchers from all over the world. Many issues offer primary publications, e.g. newly discovered original sources. Reviews of important new studies on Mahler are also a permanent feature. (Herausgeber)
